Jakarta (Katadata News) Indonesia’s Finance Ministry has joined forces with the Commission for Business Competition Supervision (KPPU) to pursue importers suspected of cartel and tax avoidance practices. Apart from impacting negatively on government revenue, the practices are causing meat prices to soar out of control.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked the relevant ministries to control food prices, especially beef and chicken prices. The directives are being implemented including through collaboration between the Trade Ministry, the Commission and the Finance Ministry represented by the Directorate General of Taxation (DGT) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC).
