Jakarta (Kompas.com) – Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province wants to once again become the cattle suppler of the nation. This would mean NTT being able to supply the entire country’s demand for beef in Indonesia.

“Right now we want to restore NTT to being a livestock producing region,” said the head of the Belu District government Willy Lay after his meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday (04/07/2017).

He explained that currently cattle production from NTT numbered only around 50,000 head per year and that this is below the numbers reached in previous years when numbers hit 100,000 per year. For Belu District itself cattle production was currently only around 5,000 to 6,000 head per year and this is well down on previous years when production reached 60,000. Read more.
